During
the 2010 General Assembly Session, a bill was introduced that would
allow the State and it’s Municipalities to take 2% this year,
2% next year and 1% the following year for a total of 5% from YOUR
paychecks to offset the cost of the Virginia Retirement System.
The Virginia Fraternal Order of Police lobbied hard and worked with
Governor McDonald to veto this bill. The bill was amended and only
new employees will be required to pay the 5%.
Keep checking
this page of our website as in the coming months we will begin lobbying
once again for a collective bargaining bill to pass. Each year we
generate more support and get closer to our goal. When passed, the
State and Municipalities would be forced to negotiate your benefits
and salaries with us and would allow you to have representation
to better protect your rights during disciplinary actions.

enforcement officers and their families. At the same time, H.R 218
